Hubby's Birthday Dinner at Olivenz Cafe

Monday, September 21, 2009

We were back in Ipoh for the Raya holiday and coincidentally Hubby's birthday falls on the second day of Raya. Me being a blur sotong in Ipoh was absolutely clueless on the whereabouts of places to treat Hubby for a birthday dinner. Google and fellow bloggers' blog was my only source of info to look for a decent place for dinner. After google-ing on the recommended places in Ipoh, I had shortlisted a few places for the dinner. Of course I need the birthday boy's help to look and hunt for the exact location. After shortlisting the places, we actually 'ronda' around Ipoh for the few places and our winner for tonight's dinner is.......................................

Olivenz Cafe situated at Bandar Baru Medan Ipoh

Our birthday boy - Dear Hubby... :)

Hubby's choice - Secret Garden (Apple, Kiwi, Banana and Milk)

My choice - Queen's Love (Strawberry, Orange and Milk) Trying to be Queen of coz...

Cute drink stirrer

Starter - Baked Escargots

Cheeselicious escargot

Hubby's choice - Butteryaki Chicken (grilled chicken in japanese butter sauce)

My choice - Red Wine Lamb Shoulder (grilled lamb in red wine glaze)

Me and Hubby

Overall, the environment for the place was okay but the butteryaki chicken was too salty for my taste. Hubby commented the same too. The red wine lamb shoulder was good. They were generous in the meat portion and top with the red wine sauce, they tasted wonderful. We had a great time there. Luckily, the place doesn't let us down since the dinner was meant to give the birthday boy a dinner treat. Once again, in this post, I would like to take the opportunity again to wish Hubby:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR!
MAY YOU HAVE MANY MORE WONDERFUL BIRTHDAYS AHEAD!

Hubby's Pre-Birthday Celebration...

Saturday, September 12, 2009

Since there's two Sept boys for this month, we headed to Taste Good Restaurant in Puchong for an early birthday celebration for Hubby and CW. I had planned to bake a cake for the dinner and used it for Hubby's birthday cake since we wouldn't be around in KL during his birthday. So no baking for fresh cake on his exact birthday. There's a total of six of us inclusive of the lil brat who were with us this weekend for this dinner celebration. I had actually googled for new places to eat and spotted this restaurant. Thus here we are in Puchong venturing for new gastronomic adventures. Some of the dishes are good and the rest are just above average. Pricing wise was slightly on the higher side as compared to the normal places we went for dinner. I think I am getting used to the food pricing in Klang already thus making me feels the other restaurant are pricier nowadays.

I love the steamed fish the most, it's fresh, juicy and not forgetting the gravy was fantastic! The chicken platter which was recommended by the waiter actually fails my expectation. It was just simple stir-fry chicken with some vege plus the prawn crackers. I thought it will be good as the waiter was telling us that we were lucky since we came early and should order this dish. He was telling me the dish normally will be sold out during the peak dinner hour. The taufu and steamed eggs are pretty normal dishes just like those served in other restaurant. So will I come again for second round? I doubt so since I have better alternatives... *wink wink*....

Steamed Fish - very nice... but i forgot what fish is this.... Hehe..

Chef recommendation - chicken platter. I felt that it is average only.

Sheung Ping Taufu - something different. I think the gravy was made from pumpkin..

Steamed Tri-eggs

Stir-fry greenies..

A slice of blueberry yogurt cake anyone?

Blueberry Yogurt Cake

This cake was initially supposed to be decorated with buttercream and decorated with some other stuffs on top and of course I was thinking of having a 'themed' birthday cake for Hubby but I failed miserably in trying to coat the cake with buttercream. All the crumbs were running 'wild' here and there while I was trying to coat the cake. On top of that, the buttercream was somehow not at the 'spreadable consistency'. So I resulted in my contingency plan. The blueberries were used to top the top of the cake and almond flakes at the sides. Phew! Luckily, the end result is not really as 'eyesore' as I thought it would be.

A portion of the cakes were sliced and Hubby's name were piped on the cake board.By the way, in case you were wondering whether today is his birthday, the answer is NO. Hubby's birthday is still a week plus away but since we will be going back to his hometown meaning I wouldn't be able to bake anything on the exact date, I am baking this cake earlier for a pre-birthday celebration for him with his friends.

360g sponge mix
6 eggs
90ml milk
90 butter, melted
2 tsp vanilla essence

Birthday Dinner at Wong Poh Restaurant

Sunday, May 24, 2009

After dozens of messages discussion over Facebook, we had finally decided on the venue for our 'makan' cum birthday celebrations gathering. It will be in Restoran Wong Poh in Bukit Mayang Mas, PJ. As per my earlier post, I'll bring over a cake as well for the gathering. As usual Malaysian style, everybody was late for the dinner except me and Hubby. Yeah! We are on time, sharp at 6pm!!! So guys, must be punctual ya next time especially to CW who said he won't be late since he stays the nearest.. :P *Just kidding*

So what's our menu for the day? Have a look yourself on the pictures posted below.

Stir fry vege

Steamed Salted Chicken

Salad Taufu - we love the way they presented it..

Salted egg crab - THUMBS UP!

Butter Crab - nice but lack of gravy

All the dishes we ordered except mantau that came late...

Birthday gal and boy of the month of May

Birthday boy cutting cake

My creation - banana cake with frosting.. Again it's too sweet even after I had reduced the amount...

All of us had great time during the gathering. Just imagine, we actually sat there for more than 3 hours chit chatting non-stop which proves that all us are really '8'. Hehe... Come to think of it, it's nice to have this kinda gathering once a while to catch up on each other lives. :)

My Birthday Celebration

Tuesday, May 19, 2009

Today is the time of the year again where I am officially older by one year. What's my age? For those who know me definately knew the answer, for those who don't, well just let it remain as a mystery ya. This year is rather a special year for me since this is my first birthday celebration with Hubby after our wedding last year. For this year, he actually gave me a surprise by sending flowers to me in the office. He told me initially he planned to send the flower on my birthday but changed his plan to send a day earlier since I decided to take the day off from work. So, my surprise came a day earlier. He really caught me off guard this year. Hmmm, maybe that is my hardwork too, years of pestering him of flowers ^evil grin^. 'Muacks muacks Dear! It's so sweet of you!'

Hehe.. Can't resist but snapped the lovely flower from Hubby...

So on the night sharp at 12 am midnight, we had a mini cake cutting celebration at home. Yum yum.. The Royal Chocolate Cake was so delicious and chocolatey. Here's some of the pictures taken during our mini celebration.

Me and Hubby together..

For this year birthday, I decided to take a day off work and lazying around the house and be a 'Queen' in the house - eat, sleep, internet and watching TVB series... All this actually equals of being a 'Piggy' at home.. Hehe.. So for the night, Hubby and I actually went to One Utama to have my birthday dinner and to catch a movie (Angels and Demons). We had our dinner in 'The Little Black Book' which offers American style food. All the portion of food was big. So we ended up stuffing ourselves full with food. So no popcorn for movie for us.. *Sob sob*

Cheesy Chicken - Hubby's choice

Overall, the food was delicious except the pasta is a bit salty to my taste. Nevertheless, Hubby commented it tasted fine to him. After our dinner and movie, we headed home. Of ya, I can't resist snapping a picture together with my flower too when we were back home. Guessed what happened after that, the electricity was down for our housing area. What a memorable birthday for me, we ended up lighting candles at home and we found back our 'civilization' at around 3 am. Looking at the bright side, we managed to save on electricity bill for that nite.. *Kekeke*
